I still remember the first time I heard about FC. It was in front of the school while I was talking to my friend.
"It's a new game my stepdad and his company are developing...it's called 'Flying Circus'...it's like a WWI flight sim..."
A couple weeks later they invited me down to the SG offices to try it out. I was just getting started on computers...when I walked in and they had several tables set up with rows of computers with the latest hardware and those huge monitors. On the first flight I was able to take off, but then I stalled and crashed...hehe.
Later I joined a squadron and flew frequently. It was fun to get online and see a furball of people right outside your airfield...then scrambling to take off to defend it. :) Good times.
It seemed though in the later part of SG's life FC's population decreased dramatically. Probably turned away by the monthly fee, the aerodome was just not full. I wonder if SG had gone with a buy-it-in-a-box deal, then provided the multiplayer for free, they would have not gone under.
